Research Areas
Our research is centered around quantification and transmission of information and intelligence. We aim to find fundamental limits, optimal designs, and principled practical implementations of information systems, often by pushing mathematical tools from information theory, coding theory, (convex) optimization, and learning theory in new directions.
A major current focus is on efficient, robust, and secure information systems. Information systems should efficiently perform their intelligent tasks under resource constraints on computing and communication. Information systems should be robust to physical random noise and adversarial attacks. Information systems should secure the privacy of users during computation and communication of information and intelligence.
Current research topics are as follows:
Semantic-aware and task-oriented communications
Neural decoding for error control coding
Distributed inference and learning
Coding and resource optimization for storage and processing-in-memory
Privacy-preserving AI/ML
Energy-efficient ML via Classical Water-filling
